Hello, changing king pins, and front coil springs on my 62 vette. while re-assembling, did the pass side first, everything lined up perfect with king pin arm between the upper and lower control arms. drivers side the steering nuckle is not centered in the lower control arm where the bushing attaches. i rear side of the control arm is touching the steering knuckle, it should be centered.
i have a bad feeling i know the answer, but i wanted to get some feedback from you all first. check out the picture, you can see how offf center it is.
i think the control arm is bent or the frame. the car was hit in the front end a long time ago, before i bought it.

i think so too. i did just buy another lower control arm to make sure, but i think when it was hit, they didn't do a good job looking at the drivers side frame rail.
It is possible to improperly install the spindle support lower outer shaft assembly, which will cause that problem.
Take it apart and do it again with the support centered on the threaded shaft.
Check your ST-12, but i believe the hex on the support bushing is supposed to be at the rear.
Its also possible they put it togetehr that way to get proper caster as something is bent, either the spindle support, frame cross member, or possibly a control arm., maybe even the frame kickup behind the front cross memeber
Whatever it is, start with the easiest things to check first following AZDoug's advice. A Corvette that has been around as long as yours - I'd say its more likely that someone misassembled something than it was wrecked and never straightened out. They call it Occam's razor, I call it a hope certificate.

And you are located where??????????????????????????
I think you may be jumping to conclusions here. This may not be a big deal and could be something as simple as a very minor twist of the upper control arm which could easily happen from a number of reasons. A minor twist in the other direction will get the lower pivot to line up for reassembly and only after everything is back together will a caster check tell you if anything big (frame, etc) is bent if at all.
So, i am approaching this issue by looking at the simpe first. i ordered a replacement upper control arm, lower control arm and steering knuckle, just to cover all the bases so to speak. i thought i would replace the upper control arm first, then take the next step if neccessary.
You all have been awesome in your responses! I will keep you posted as i get the parts over the next few days and post the results.
