Not knowing what stage you are at in finishing your kick panels, here is a synopsis of how I did mine.
1. Finish all repairs and paint as desired to bare kick panel.
2. Attach (staple) wind lace to kick panel. Important - this must be done BEFORE you install the inserts.
3. Lay the insert in the indented area. Align slots in the insert with slots in kick panel.
4. Insert kick panel "C" trim. Slide tabs through slots of insert and kick panel, press firmly on trim, and bend tabs over on back of kick panel.
On your door trim it is done similar to the kick panel inserts. The trim panel lays on the door panel, align the slots, and install the 12 piece trim set.
If you don't have one yet, I highly recommend getting an A.I.M. (Assembly Instruction Manual) for your car. It will be invaluable in working on your car.

Your door panels have been redone at some time in the past. The factory door panels have a recessed area where the metal panel fits in and is held in place by the trim strips.
You may be able to use your existing door panels by laying the metal insert on the panel and see if it aligns correctly. Looking at your picture, my first concern would be your door **** pull may drag on the opening because of the combined thickness of the door panel foam and covering and the metal insert and then the trim escutcheon. Another concern is the height of the carpet strip at the bottom of your panel. If it is slightly taller than original. the metal insert and trim will not fit properly. No, I don't know the exact height of the original carpet trim strip. You may also need to relocate a couple of the screws holding the panel to the door.
Another FYI, on the close up of your kick panel, there is a very irregular recessed area in front of where the "C" trim will be. That is where the right side of your heater cover attaches. Take your metal insert, tape it to the kick panel, then carefully fit the heater cover in place. You will see how it all fits together. The heater cover is a tight fit. Be careful when test fitting or final installing the heater cover to not drag it on the metal insert as those inserts are so fragile that you can easily damage them.
