Have your Prostate removed. No question there! Had mine removed in 1996. Do you know how many times I've thrown some gears since then? Get it out before it can Metasticize! Gold Standard. Best Regards, Al W.
I had my prostate removed last year. It was a piece of cake! Stayed that night in the hospital and went home the next morning. Immediately went to my garage and worked on my Vette. Took two weeks off work and right back at it. Best of luck with your situation. 👍
I was diagnosed with it two years ago. My urologist says it is slow growing and I will likely die from something else other than this. We are not treating it just doing PSA testing and follow up visits to review the PSA results. The results have been fluxuating up and down. If they reach a certain high level then there will be other options for treatment such as radiation seeds and others up to and including removal. If you are concerned about future sexual performance read on.
I am still very sexually active and want to remain so. I have elected to follow the monitoring and possible future choices above as treatment can effect you ability to maintain an erection. Below is a link regarding this.
Just saw this and praying for complete healing now.
As others said, this is beatable
My dad had it in his 60's and lived into his 90's
when he died of natural causes, not that
JRC - Take note of the number of people in this thread who are reporting in with prostate cancer encounters. Add me to the list. And we’re all still here to cheer you on.
Get a second opinion and more tests. I’ve had double digit PSAs and 3 biopsies over the years and some sort of imaging scan. The results of the imaging scan showed I had Cancer. I got a second opinion from a new doctor. Turns out I don’t have Cancer at all.
Get that second opinion. If you really do have it, as has been said multiple times here, they can treat it or you will outlive it.
And take care of yourself, mentally, along the way, my friend. And keep us posted. We’re with you.
Everybody is different, but it's possible that if you DON'T put the car on hold, it will give you something to enjoy and take your mind off the other things you are dealing with.
You must stay positive and if you feel more comfortable get a second opinion. It is beatable. My wife was diagnosed with liver cancer 8 months ago with a 57% estimated chance of survival. At first we were devastated. We read up on it and spoke to many who had/have cancer. The one thing that was essential was attitude, mental outlook and a really good doctor and medical team. We spoke to our family surgeon and were directed to UNC Women's Cancer Center and to a specific doctor who is a specialist in this area. We were advised on a course of action that involved immunotherapy infusions. We have undergone 7 months of treatments. My wife's approach was tenacious. She was totally committed to exterminating the cancer. Changed her diet, exercised, planted a garden and continued reading up on her cancer. I supported her 100% through driving her 2hrs each way to her treatments, doing housework etc. BTW our doctor kept stating that quality of life was essential and to enjoy as best as possible the things that bring her joy. We did and continue to.
Tuesday we went in for her second scan to see how things were going. The cancer tumor, for the second time ( scan) has shrunk by half again. We were ecstatic. She will now be going on maintenance infusions every 3 months rather than every three weeks. Her energy level is very high and her attitude is great.
I am sorry this is so long but I wanted to share this story of hope with you. I know you can beat your prostate cancer and wish you all the best in your fight against this disease.
As with me you can see that there are many that have it but don’t dwell on it or talk about it but do pay attention to the treatment options if it gets to that point. I have not even told my kids about it because I don’t want them to worry about it. As others have said a positive attitude is essential. .
I am still planning on building a stroker engine for my 65 and plan to get a lot of use out of it before I take the big dirt nap.
Good luck sir. Your predicament is all to common. My doc told me just a couple wks ago that 1 in 4 men wii develop prostate CA but also many treatment options and mostly positive outcomes.
God and gifted doctors can handle this, no problem!!
Carry on, Soldier
One thing is for sure, you did the best thing going to Stanford. My wife got diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago at 40. Had we followed the path from local community hospital, she would be dead. I was adamant about going to Northwestern or University of Chicago, which she ultimately did. You are dealing with the best of best at hospitals like Stanford and Northwestern. Good luck on your recovery.
