Funny how lifes path changes
I finally got the painted body home and started the cleanup after paint. I am pleased how well the restoration has gone up until now. When I was at the shop, we were goofing around and making old guy jokes then someone said, what if you die and never get to finish the car? Can I have it? We all laughed.
I get this phone call from my Dr on my birthday informing me of advanced cancer in my prostrate. That was last week. I'll have all the tests and pics taken before weeks end. Then we can make decisions about what the future may be.

Until then the car is on hold...

i have been where you are. First off, notifying you by phone is a dick move. Who the **** does that? Second, there are several options all dependent according to where you are. Don’t get depressed, get informed. I’ll be pulling for you
Prayers and wishes for you and your family. Do not let this get in the way of your life. With todays technology more men die with prostate cancer than from prostate cancer. Do not let it get in your head.
There are effective treatments for nearly all of prostate cancer and a overall survival rate of 98% + for all but most widespread cases. Since you spoke of pictures taken I am hoping that you are on path for dual beam radiation, maybe combined with other elements.
it must be terribly nerve racking but have confidence and get this behind you !

Any time the word "cancer" comes up in a diagnosis it is totally understandable to freak out. Fortunately, prostate cancer is very slow growing and, caught early, the prognosis is very good. Factoid hit the nail on the head. There have been tremendous advances in treatment for prostate cancer. Listen to your doctors and the odds will be in your favor. All the best for you and prayers being sent your way. I, also, agree with mind over matter. The mind is an incredible thing.
Another obstacle in the road of life. You're concerned and you should be. We're telling you not to be as we should. Now you need to take control of your emotions and prepare yourself for what's a head. Be informed, be positive, be satisfied with the treatment plan, and you will put this behind you. We're here to support you. You're here to show us that you're going beat this. No need to put anything on hold. Life is never on hold. It's moving forward and so are you. God speed. We're praying for you.
I have not been in your shoes, but it's my understanding prostate cancer is one of the more survivable forms of cancer. I know several guys who have had it and all have done fine in the long run. Hang in there, be sure you have the best doctors and medical team you can find, and think positively. You will beat this!!!
Wishing you all the best, Coach. As has already been said, cancer treatment has come a long way, and will continue to do so. It's not an automatic death sentence. Plenty of people have gone on to enjoy decades of good health. My dad beat a nasty cancer that had metastasized when he was in his early sixties. He made it to 91, and it wasn't cancer that took him.
My uncle died at 105...but NOT from the prostate cancer he'd had for 45 years. It is a VERY treatable disease these days! Most of us will get prostate cancer, if heart disease or a few others don't get us first! Good luck brother! We will be praying for you! -Lee
I got a call from my parents over 6 years ago to stop by. I knew my dad had been having problems from a pinched nerve or something. I was informed he had been diagnosed with ALS. Everyone was devastated and we went with him to his next appointment. I grilled the doctor and she said 100% it is ALS. I remember sitting at Olive Garden at lunch that day thinking my dad is going to die a horrible death and right now is the best he will ever be. Now more than 6 years have passed and he has remarkably hardly changed at all. He goes every 6 months for checkups and he loses a little strength here and there but you would never know. The doctor told him at the progression he is going that he will die of something else first.

As a prostate cancer survivor myself - 10’years ago now - I totally agree with the above statements and others. I chose to have the external beam radiation treatment. My PSAs stay consistently minimal now.
You can beat this! Do not put your life on hold. Keep doing the things that bring you joy!

The phone call on my 70th birthday was the tip of the iceberg. The good news in all this, was the other guy got news he didn't have prostrate cancer. That being said, I hope you all realize that's ALL I can say for now. Friday is tests/scans day. After that I'm headed to Stanford for a second opinion.
