Default steering column question

I have a 64 and recently was noticing a noise when turning the wheel. after pulling the steering column i noticed 2 tabs were broken off the top end of the column. There were only 3 tabs on the top end of column i removed. I ordered a new column from a major supplier and the new column has 4 tabs on the top end of the column. Can anyone explain to me which is the correct column for my car? I looked very close at my original column and it looks like there was no sign of a 4th tab that may have been broken and missing. thanks for your help.

The mast jacket in our '65 has 4 tabs. Photos are not the greatest but hope this helps.

That is a pic of the correct mast jacket with 4 tabs. Did you mean a replacement you got had only 3 tabs? Just FYI, the column will assemble and work just fine with 3 tabs. I ran that on my 65 for years. That was back when you couldn't easily get a replacement jacket. If the lock collar in the pic fits on your 3 tab jacket, use it!

As long as it will lock in place you should be fine. I have a 64 and ran into an issue where a PO had installed a different bell than the one that would fit the column. It made the gap between the steering wheel and the bell about 1/4 instead of 1/8 inch. Someone told me that all of the 64s had black bells and mine is blue on the inside. I figured it was from a 63.

My wife kept asking me when I was going to get a Corvette Jacket... I'll tell her I already have one. (terrible dad joke...)

The three tab mast jacket was on my car when purchased. Two of the tabs were broken off. I was just trying to figure out if the three tab was original part and the 4 tab is a correct upgrade? Thanks for all replies guys.
