I Just put a Tremec TKX 5 speed in my 62. The shifter sits higher in the console than the original so the boot doesn’t cover the attachment bolts. Anyone that’s done the swap have a suggestion for a boot that will work?
I know I can get a leather boot but was hoping to find a taller rubber boot that will resemble the original.
There is a boot for a Volvo I learned about when I installed mine and it works great, without losing the original look of a rubber boot. I'll try to find a PN. I have since added the 5 speed shift diagram plate.
I believe this is the boot I used, but there are others very similar. You will most likely only use the top 3 or 4 bellows of this taller boot. But, this link and post #3 will give you a good idea what you're looking for.
I recently installed a TKX and mocked up the Volvo shift boot. I still need to trim the base slightly and screw down the plate. The TKX supplied round shifter is too large to fit inside of the factory shifter plate shown in the post above. I didn’t get an offset shifter as I prefer the middle position.
Hi Jack (Redline). I like the look of the leather boot. I just went to the web page. Is there an option to accommodate the round shifter handle ? The Hurst Comp + shifter with the bolt on shift handle, that bolt on handle location also sits high so makes those handle bolts high. A stock boot can work, but it is deformed up a good bit to cover the shift handle bolts... and looks a little mickey mouse. This leather boot in a round handle design would be another option.
I had the stock boot on mine but with the 5 speed the stock shifter sat too high. I went with the taller tilted back stick and the bottom of stick is flat where the boot rests. I do like the leather boot, I am going to get one with black stitching.
