missing rt. splash shield brackets?
Odd and maybe insignificant thing noticed in for sale cars. Once in a great while you see the inboard mounting tab missing for the right splash shield. This is the one which has the gas pedal attached on the driver's side. These appear to be actually missing, with no rivet holes. It seems maybe the 63's didn't have shields, but I've seen this on cars where the shield is just sort of hanging there, without a tab at all. Just a few cars that had the floor replaced or some screwball reason from assembly?

It's very likely that tab or bracket did not get riveted to the floorboard from the factory. Rather, it was held in place only by the bolts holding the gas pedal. And, given it was on the driver side, I think you mean to be referring to the left side large splash shield.
Probably in many cases, the gas pedal was removed for some reason, perhaps carpeting replaced, and in so doing, the tab or bracket was lost and not reinstalled.

I was talking about the passenger side - that's what struck me as odd. This area isn't photographed too much except in complete ads, so the issue doesn't reveal itself too often. It's also hard to see if rivet holes are present. I'd guess I've only seen it 2 or 3 times, but enough to think it is just an odd thing to be on more than one car.
