Default A THREAD for the AVERAGE GUY

Please don't get me wrong here, but I get a bit depressed and feel somewhat unworthy seeing some of the insane SWC's and L-88's lodged lovingly in the beautiful, immaculate shops and garages which some of you guys have; some appear cleaner, prettier, more expensive, and less cluttered than my own HOME.

Now I'm not dissing anyone.... actually, quite the contraire... I'm very happy for you and I know you're truly proud of your great cars and pristine shops, perfect driveways, and beautiful lawns around your facility. Honestly I'm quite envious; not jealous, not begrudging or covetous .... just envious.

I started cleaning up my messy shop last week; a process I go thru every 3-4 years, and I wondered how many of you guys DON'T have your car in a "Taj Mahal" type setting. So I snapped a few pix, and decided to create a thread for us clutter mongering, shade-tree guys.

Out here on the ranch, I commonly pull a car out of the shop and park it in the dirt so I can work on a tractor, farm truck, shredder, trailer, agricultural sprayer, etc; Yep, PURE SACRILIGE, I know!

So, for those of you whose cars sit on UNcheckered (or worse) floors in drafty, greasy, hot/or cold (at the wrong time) shops/garages.....THIS THREAD'S FOR YOU, my brothers!

A sad thing is that these pics were taken AFTER my big clean-out! LOL

So, Enjoy............... (or cringe)!

And come on, my messy brothers, snap a pic, and see if you can top this shxx:

After posting this, if I need to delete this thread and submit my resignation to the forum, I do understand....

-Lee

I believe you underestimate your Wealth! By the way, true wealth is not in your Garage. It's with your Family and your personal Health! Might want to be mindful of the important things..........

If you get kicked out of the Forum.......I'll exit also!

All the best and great job on your Garage...........It's a Classic! I could actually see myself sitting there with a cigar and a nice cold beer!

I sure hear you! Occasionally I'll clean off a workbench or shelf unit and feel great at how neat it looks - until I remember how many times I have done that before, each time with a solemn promise to KEEP it neat going forward. Yeah, right!

I see no problem with your shop. If you want it super clean, clean it perfectly and never work in it again.

I'm not sure how long you've been doing this old car thing but I've been at it since 1989. Here's a tip I got when I was 17 and I had just bought my first vintage car:

You're King of the Road in that thing

I have a bad habit in my garage/shop.

I always keep it clean with everything in it's place at the end of the day.

If I work late and it's a mess the 1st thing I do the next day before starting any work is clean and organize the space.

Lee, your place is so practical and workable. My kind of place without giving you a headache. My place is two cars deep due the the house design built in 1936. My ceiling is only 7'9" under the dinning room, so no lift, but that doesn't stop work when necessary. Dennis

most of us own garden verity cars and most of us thats all we wanted when looking for one. there is only a few or the one percenter that want rare cars and have garage-mahals to hold them in. I will never judge anyone garage and how clean it is. some of us just have never ending projects that lend to a messy working area

Absolutely nothing wrong with that garage...and, a whole lot of right. Pays homage to the working mans garage. Lots of space (which most of us don't have) and a nice environment surrounding the outside. Hats off to you, Lee. Great garage and terrific taste in cars. Wrench on

I also like the working garage. My late father was an aerospace and medical machinist. He was manic in cleaning his tools and putting them away after each task. You could blindfold him and ask him to get a tool. He would answer, " do you want the Brown and Sharpe or Starrott 1" micrometer"? I still have some of his tools from the 40s. Needless to say, his habits wore off on me. My son, is a different story, but I try. Jerry

Same here, Dennis. The back of my shop is 8' and the front is 10'....so I usually mooch off my good friend and borrow his lift. But it's always awkward, as I never seem to bring all the correct tools, and have to borrow some of his....which bugs me more than him...

I surely like your car and enjoy your posts about it!
