Default Hit & Run driver caught

Hi folks ! I had a hit & run accident with my 67 c2 . the caught the driver. Now his insurance co. Appraisal is less than half what it will take to restore my car to pre-accident condition ! Excellent condition , approx 5000 miles on a frame off nut/bolt restoration . Do you think I will behead for a court room ?
Rsvp anyone

Go through your collector car insurance - don’t screw with his. Let your insurance deal with them.

I'm Chris from Massachsetts and I had my classic car crunched hard T-bone style by a stop sign blowing van driver back in the day. Insurance screwed me and hard, that's Massachusetts. Pay high rates, and then the Insurance Co won't pay up. It should be a crime.

I don't know how to help you Frank but I know a little of what you're feeling and I'm sorry it happened. Where did it happen if you don't mind me asking?

Miles apart ! We’ll see how this plays out 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ I could email you a picture but I don’t know how to post on the forum. Peace !

Hard time to learn about collector ins co’s and agreed value …. Def. fight to get it fixed right under your control and sort out after. Going to be a process no matter what.

edit - just checked your profile. My 2 cents is to get your cars on a new cc policy asap esp chevelle & Camero
Check threads here on companies and pick one. You will save $ for better coverage and less hassle should anything else should occur.

Just curious how did you get the car registered without insurance. Here is NY it is mandatory to have insurance before registration.
Is Mass different?

He said he didn't have collision, presumably he has liability which is all that's required.

PL/PD is what I had on my 1960 fifty plus years ago while still in the army. It was a Calif. requirement.

Taxachusetts very definitely requires insurance.

Just assume that MA wants money for everything possible and you can't go far wrong.

Sounds like State Farm Insurance ( " Like A Good Neighbor " ? ? I have had several similar losses dealing with them until I switched to classic car insurance and the claims were due to another driver causing the damage . Agreed value through a reputable classic car insurer would have made it right .

Don't know how much he saved by not properly insuring his car but now he has to fight in court for $18,700 to be whole again. Maybe more, after the shop tears it apart and finds additional issues.
OP if you had insured the car with a collectible car insurance company, such as NCM or Hagerty, etc.,there would be no hassle with them repairing your car. You chose to drive the car without collision coverage and now you have a true hassle on your hands.

Hit and run. Is there a police report? I would think there would be. In New York I had someone run a stop sign in front of me and do to traffic conditions could not avoid hitting him. Within a week I had several offers in the mail from law offices offering to represent me. I'm surprised you don't have a mail box full too. It doesn't hurt for you to contact his insurance company and speak to a supervisor to discuss your case. If you get nowhere advise them them you will take legal action. If the case goes court they are not in a favorable position for a settlement. Paying you a fair amount to repair your Corvette is less costly than legal fees. The phone calls are free. That's certainly a place to start.

I believe that some states (Oklahoma is one of them) that as the injured party you get to decide who does the work on your car. You might check and see if that's the case in your state. Your insurance company is paid by you to do your fighting.
