Default Defrost cable differences?

I want to put a new heater control cables in my 63 while the dash is out. The old ones are too hard to operate and put too much force on the dash. I can find the heater control cable with the switch but the only defrost cables I can find are for cars with ac. Anyone know what’s different about them from the ones for cars without ac?

I went through this when restoring my 63. As I remember, the blower motor wont work unless you have the one exactly like was in it. The a/c ones have more terminals, and will not work. Supposedly the ones you get from CC will work if you add another hot wire to your fuse box coming from their repro cable. . I didnt want to do that. I elected to buy a nice used one from JT Piper.

That’s for the heater control cable/switch. I’m talking about the defrost cable. (Right side cable.) There’s no switch just a cable that goes to the diverter. I don’t understand why they would be any different for ac cars versus non ac.

Joe. The defrost cable (the one next to the passenger) is about impossible to find a new one. You can find an AC defrost cable but not a non-AC cable. The difference between the two is the length. The non-AC cable is about 3 1/2 inches LONGER than the AC cable. I tried an AC cable and could not get it to fit the way it was supposed to run. The routing (starting from the heater box end under the defrost duct) is toward the passenger then under and behind then over the heater box and then into the dash. The AC cable is not long enough to do this.

I snapped my cable outer casing and had to do what I could to repair it. It works but is very tough to pull in and out. I have moved on to other things but in my quest for a cable I found a forum member that is making cables for a company that should be available soon. If you send me a PM I will track down the company and respond back. Or if he see's your post he may respond. Good luck.

Thanks Mark. I found this one and ordered it. We’ll see how it fits. https://www.corvettepacifica.com/pro...ing-usa-63-67/

I just got a note from them saying they are currently back ordered. Surprise surprise! Said they should get them in 3-5 weeks.
