Summer of 2019, I had my bumpers chromed at Airline Plating, 6829 Airline Drive in Houston. The work was good (better than factory), three years later my bumper look like new. The cost (2019) $1500 for the set of four and the front cross bar.

I haven't used them yet but I've heard they do good work and they also specialize in pot metal. If I remember correct when I contacted them their turn around time was only 4 week but their website says 15 days which I'm sure that means 3 weeks. The bumper quotes were in the $395 range for triple chrome at the time. These quotes were little over a year ago so the prices could have increased. Hopefully i will be able to get around to finally getting my bumpers re-chromed. Let me know the route you go and the results.
On the east coast and especially in the northeast portion of the U.S., (possibly due to their locations) the two most often recommended chrome plating companies (that I have heard) are Paul's and Librandi's. Not inexpensive by any stretch but very good quality. Those two are usually the heavy hitters for chrome plating at Corvettes at Carlisle in August just in case you wanted to make the journey up from Houston. C.J.

I have used Houston Plating and Polishing with good result. That said, the other chrome platers mentioned also do good work . If you live in Houston and cant find a suitable plater, you aren’t going to find one shopping other parts of the country. Dont make this harder than what it is.
A second for Speed & Sport Chrome Plating, Houston. I recently had some boat parts chrome plated. Owner quoted from photos I sent. Price was right, turn-around was two weeks. Customer service was excellent. Shop was referred by my previous plater in Phoenix who recently went out of business.
I am pretty sure that Dick Barron over at Virginia Vettes does chrome plating.
That said I believe that he does not do the chrome plating it in-house but sends it out to somewhere in Virginia or North Carolina. I can check with some C2 friends of mine and find out more details if you think you might be interested. I think that V.V. is located in Williamsburg so not too far from you. C.J.

Dick no longer offers plating. Like me, his plating shop closed. Wishing for a reliable source within driving range. Paul’s and Lebrandi are too far in Pa.. Hate shipping, especially newly chromed bumpers!

Thanks for he bump. Two platers in Virginia closed their doors this year so we no longer offer chrome plating. We will continue stainless polishing.
Our best for the holidays

I used speed and sport to repair and plate my bumpers. They did a good job on getting the dents out and the chrome looked good. I had a couple of hair scratches from shipping I guess. My painter said he could get it out and buffed through the top layer pretty quick.
The girl who was fixing and polishing my stainless sent the bumper to her chromer in FtWorth and he said the chrome was thin. The FtWorth guy also did my grille, door handles and vent window frames as well as some other pieces.
I would highly suggest rechroming and pay what it takes to do a perfect job (even though the original factory plating was crap) as the repro GM authorized bumpers do not fit worth a crap.

Elwood,
I always wonder what the end game is when a competing shop comments badly on another shop that provides the same service. Couple of questions i have:
Were the bumpers triple or double chrome plated, double will surely be thinner.
Did she show you with a gauge the plating thickness, if not it's hearsay in my book.
What were the FT Worth shop prices?
I'm always cautious on what i believe when I'm being told something and wonder if they have an axe to grind against another shop. I'm sure the Ft Worth shop does fantastic work though and it sounds like you're very happy with their work. Unfortunately for all of us the EPA is making it harder on the Plating Shops and in the end we are the ones paying the price with Quality of work and price increase to offset their investments needed to work within the EPA rules and regulations.
I wondered about that as well. He very well could be trying to slam a competitor. I know I had to send my grille back to FtWorth guy as it was not right when it arrived to the stainless girl. He said his son shipped it without him inspecting it. All I know is came back the way it should have in the first place.
The bumpers were supposed to be triple plate show chrome.
I believe he charged me $200 to redo the chrome as I had numerous items go to him because it was easier than sending a cashiers check before work was done to Houston. I know the EPA is causing cost to skyrocket in the plating world as there are fewer and fewer places.
Speed and sport is who my painter recommended and that is why I went there first. He has used them for years. Here are couple pics after he tried to buff the scratches. You can see the different color spot. Maybe he buffed to hard? I don’t know. The work was done in 2018.
