Default Blind attachment question

During my current carpet replacement (‘62), Ive found that the shifter/ashtray surround’s attachment bolt/screw holes have been enlarged. Hoping someone might have suggestions about blind attachment solutions. I would like to avoid crawling under the car and accessing nuts when removal is needed.

The modified holes are close to 7/16” in diameter. Thanks, Jim

I believe the best way to solve your issue is to:

1) Clean the holes
2) Painters tape underneath the holes you need to repair Should be able to set the tape through the shifter / tray opening.****
3) Double Epoxy the enlarges holes to level and let dry for 24 hours
4) under drill the epoxied holes
5) Done

**** If tape positioning is not possible, the epoxy mixture should not lag down through the holes. if it does, mix a little more and fill the dimples then let dry and cure......

After looking at the C1 Plate attachment bolts/clips...........DO NOT FOLLOW MY DIRECTIONS! Your not fixing enlarged screw holes!!

Thanks, Vegas. Good idea. It’s amazing how you get locked in on something and miss the obvious. Your comment about the shifter opening is something I totally overlooked. I can work through the opening fairly easily and get to where I need to be. Thanks again. Jim

I made a home-made nut plate out of brass barstock and drilled and tapped for the screws. Attached it to tunnel with pop rivets.

Isn’t this what goes in the holes?

These are what I used on my 57 to capture the bolts. Just tap them into the fiberglass tunnel, they’re not going anywhere.
