Re: 327/350 hp vs. the rest (TheOman)
This post definately provided plenty of info.
As far as maintenance on a solid vs. hydraulic lifter car there really is no difference.
The 327/350 hp cars are as they say very reliable/streetable and perform like their solid lifter counterparts through the low and mid range but are not designed to run or pull as hard at the top as a 365 hp car. That "151" cam is what makes this L-79 really go.
This is great info...because tomorrow I am going to look at a 67 327/350 car! Believe it or not its from a private sale, as has been stated before it seems like most mid years "for sale" are from a dealer. Between Pro Team and Mershons they seem to have all the mid years but prices seem out of control there.
Thanks again for all the great responses...invaluable info.

One more suggestion..... You could use a more aggressive hyd cam from Crane or Comp Cams, etc... and use either Crane Hi-Intensity or Rhodes lifters. These lifters bleed off at low RPM to effectively shorten the duration of a cam to maintain idle vacuum and low rpm power. At higher rpm's, they act as normal hyd lifters to give full use of the cam's profile. At idle they also sound like solid lifters (ticking). I've used both types on numerous radical hyd cam grinds and they do work quite well as advertised. So, in conclusion, you get the benefits of hyd lifters (no maintenance) and the sound and performance of a solid lifter cam.
