Default Need help quick about rear leafspring !

Hello Guys,

I need to know how long the rear spring bolts are, I want to buy the bolts that leave room for lowering the ride height below stock height .

If you are talking about the bolts for the end hole of the rear spring, I use grade8 fine thread with Nylok nuts to adjust for the height I want. The length you start with depends on whether the spring is original 7 or 9 leaf. If not is it plastic or some other spring rate.

A better starting point would be - how long are your current bolts and how much do you want to change the height?

The correct "stock" bolts are about 6-1/4" long, and use a castle nut and cotter pin; the longer replacements that use the Nylok nut and give you ride height adjustment capability are about 8-1/2" long.

John is right. I installed all new parts in the rear. I used a new 9 leaf spring. When I set the car down and drove it the butt end set up higher than I would like. The butt end tended to want to sway alot. The perfect setup is to keep the half shafts level or straight and not on an angle. I did as John stated, installed 2- 8 1/2 blts. with the nylon nuts. I had a hard time locating them locally at hardware and nut and bolt suppliers due to their dimenion round. I ordered mine through Vet Brakes. Hope that helps. :seeya

Thanks guys !!

I went too Vette Brakes web site and seen the rear bolt kit. They were 8' bolts not 8 1/2.

The kit cost $30 for the 8' polly.

I also looked up Ecklers, they have the same but they come with the "cups". cost $40.

I think I like the the bolt kit that Ecklers sells better.

What do you think?

Thanks again
Kevin

I got mine from a fastener supplier in Davenport IA (local) for less than $10 about 5 years ago.

If you don't mind send some pictures of your old 66 corvette. It sounds like you sold it a couple of years ago. I bought a 66 vette with a magnet red paint job about a year ago from Holly White.

Thanks
