Have difficulty removing my radiator cap on the expansion tank.
Initial first turn for releasing pressure is not a problem. Problem is removing the cap from the expansion tank.
Pressing down on the cap and trying to turn it does not always work. Sometimes it takes 10-15 minutes just to remove the RC.
Are all RC difficult to remove? VERY frustrating !
Its technique combined with muscle memory and a certain lack of digital arthritis. Try using a light touch, finesse, rather than manhandling the thing the way we are inclined. I've got 9 and now have trouble remembering just what sort of foreplay each of my rigs prefers. That's life in a old motor pool.
I have good luck in sliding a small, thin screw driver into the gap between the can and the tank and gently working it open a bit. It has always been at the very ends of where the gap is that the cap hangs up on the tank. Just keep working at it and if you bend the cap end a little you can tap it back into shape before replacing it. I also put just a touch of grease around the neck of the tank so it won't be an issue next time.
I smeared clear silicone grease on both the top of the tank & under the cap gasket Sealing surfaces, helped a lot reapply after every removal install..
Big THANKS for the feed back.
So I guess I am not the only one who struggles with RC removal
For me, I put a small block of wood under the expansion tank before removing the RC. This helps but still needs a bit of finesse to get the RC completely removed.
