Default Gasket advice

I am going to do a cam change in my 327 if it ever gets warm enough to work in my garage again. I was wondering if any one has any feelings about which gasket companies have the best products. I really hate finnishing a project only to find leaks that have to be fixed or re-done.

Thanks to all, 7 degrees in Pittsburgh this morning!

You're going to get many different opinions on this one. I've always used Fel-Pro gaskets, and they have seemed to work pretty well for me. I put a new oil pan gasket and seals on my vert a couple years ago, and it hasn't leaked a drop since. I think it's the only sbc I've every owned that didn't leak at least a little oil from somewhere!!!

I'm with you, I HATE leaks :banghead: :banghead: Good luck, Brian

I use the MrGasket intake manifold set with the O-ring seals. The only way to go when using aluminum intakes. You can just loosen and lower your oil pan enough to get the cam cover off and use Ultra Seal silicone in the area when reinstalling. Worked for me.

Something else to add. Make sure the pan rail is true and the bolt holes are not dimpled upward. Use a straight edge for observation, if truing is necessare place a suitable piece of metal under the lip and pein it down with a ball pein hammer from the other side. To finish this off actually torque the pan bolts as specified, this assures you of even pressure for the length of the gasket. Done right, no leaks should appear in the out years.

I'd say Felpro also. One thing I've found to be really nice is Felpro's permadry oil pan gaskets. One piece gasket and doesn't require any sealer to get a good seal. Nice if you know that you'll be changing cams much.
