I have been retired for 9 years and wonder if they have Digital RT for metals yet? I know all of the dentists have digital X-rays in their office, so it must be affordable and I assume does not require a radioactive source. Also the doctors have a sonogram which I assume is similar to a UT although the body tissues are not near as dense as steel. High end machine shops have UT to check the cylinder wall thickness and find flaws, but not really applicable to the OPs problem.The technology for metallurgy and testing is changing rapidly with the computers and laser equipment today. Like our old cars, we are following the path of the dinosaur to extinction.

I retired 10 years ago this thanksgiving . In 2016 I was diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis by way of ultrasonic exam . The technique was pretty much the same as the sonograms they use for pregnant women to examine there fetuses .

Any update on the heads, or evaluation of the milkshake problem?
Also, if it ends up being the block, I have a 327 block sitting in my shop. It's dated for an early '64, but you're welcome to it if you need it.

Thanks Pat! I will keep that in mind... I figured the first step is to check the head gasket and then take the heads in for cracks.
