please tell me what the cast is for "P" C1" & might someone also know what that small stamped letter is?

The C1 could have been a casting pattern identifier -- you'd have to search for other 9942 blocks to see what they have in that position. Not much help, I know.

Keep in mind that these blocks were intended to be used across all sorts of Chevrolet/GM applications. The cast blocks were the same; the differences were made in the machine shops.
