amp gauge reading
I am working on a 65 and my amp gauge reads about 20 amps (charging) driving and drops to 0 at idle (900 rpm) I checked my battery this morning and it read 12.78 Is the reading supposed to do this?. I am concerned about over charging the battery

Check voltage various places. Report back. But these old used cars have multiple places to have voltage drain or large resistance.
12.8 is a fully charged battery. Should do 13 to 14 running at about 2k rpm.
