OK, I admit I'm a dumbass, I was going through our old key box, throwing away old keys, including some keys to a Vette I previously owned. I now realize I threw away my spare lock key! Any suggestions how to unlock it. Thanks in advance!
The lock bolt is attached to the rear crossmember with 2 bolt's. Unbolt the whole assembly, and take it to a locksmith. There's a guy (I think in California) who restores and can re-key Corvette spare tire locks. If you can't find a local locksmith to remove it, maybe you could send the whole assembly to him. I have his name around somewhere, I'll post it if I can find it. Worse come to worse, if you can't find anyone to remove the lock, you can buy the whole lock bolt assembly (lock bolt, mounting bracket, hardware & unique lock bolt nut) for about $50, but a new lock is another $75.
If you can't find a local locksmith to get the lock off, Gary Beaupre is probably the best person in the US when it comes to Corvette spare tire locks. Gary can be reached between 9 and 5 Pacific time at 408-250-0370, or by emailing him at gsb1966@comcast.net.
