I'm probably purchasing a 65 coupe that no longer has its electric antenna, and there is a fixed mast in its place.
In searching for a replacement electric antenna - am I going to be better off looking for a used original or are the aftermarket repos a good replacement?
Corvette Central has a nice replacement for just under $300. If you want a used original you'll pay a premium with no guarantee that it works. I purchased the one from Corvette Central and will install it this winter. I'm sure you know by now that CC bought out Paragon which was the go to for most parts.
If your desire is to return to original, bg725 gave some good info. As an option, if you also want one so that a car cover can be used, consider the '67 removable mast. I remove my '67 mast to put my cover on. Dennis

Great idea - I'll consider that option as well!
I can't find the particular thread right now, but I also remember reading that a particular C3 retractable antenna will also work - while retracting all the way down as well.
my .02 i would try to find a good original, or buy a rebuilt/restored one.
i bought the aftermarket one for around $300 or so, barely used it and the second summer it quit midway thru. I pulled it attempted to see if it could be fixed but I couldnt find anything fixable. i ended up finding a restored original and have it on the car now since last year, no issues yet

Or you could punch a hole in the cover and use of these bad boys.
If you do not care about originality go to Auto Zone or one of the other parts stores and buy an electric antenna. It my require some ingenuity to mount in your 65, but I have been running one in my '62 for 20 years. Be sure to check the clearance before you buy one.
