Generator Bench Testing

I am in the process of rebuilding the generator on my '60. I remember reading a while ago that you can bench test your generator by rewiring the wires connected to it. If I remember right, the generator would turn then backward at ~1300 RPM. Would anyone know the wiring configuration for this?
