3 speed question

In 1963, 919 had the standard 3-speed, about 4%.
in 1967, only about 424 Corvettes had the 3-speed… that’s about 1.8%…
Some people may have wanted or needed to save money.
Some of my dad’s friends figured a 3-speed was quicker for drag racing due to the extra shift…. Although by the mid-60s, that found it wasn’t really the case.
I have spoken with other original owners (not Corvettes though), and several just honestly didn’t check the box for a 4-speed ( some thought it was Standard)…. Similar for Positraction.
I knew a guy that ordered bucket seats in his Chevelle, and it was delivered with a column-shifted automatic (he thought floor-shift and console were standard)…

4-speed for how he was going to use it. He lived in Fargo N.D., was his only car, needed to run all year long each day to get to work. lots of his driving was
"cross country", no drag race stuff. also said in Fargo it gets to -10 to -30 and this is way he did not order a BB, he needed it to start each day to get to work.
I bought it from him in 1980 and still have it today
The 3-speed was only fitted to the base motor.
I also have a 1990 ZR-1 and a 1971 LS-6 with the M-22 and 4:11, when i do drive the 67 I have to think......over and down, over and down, not over and up!
