I was looking over my newly acquired 62 and changed the oil. The oil filter is a spin on. According to my chevy small block book The casting number of the block is supposed to be 62-63 327. It is not an adapter to a spin on. Casting number is 3959512. Seems to have the small balancer on it like an early small journal motor. On the pad on the front of the engine the number starts with a CEXXXXXXX.Im unable to make out the rest of the numbers they're stamped really light. Anyone seen anything like this? The previous owner said he was told the motor was replaced in 64 with an over the counter motor.

this motor has a spin on filter not an adapter type
The 3959512 casting and that whole series of 39595xx blocks were replacement castings for the out-of-production 283 and 327 blocks beginning in late 68. That explains your spin-on filter.
