I lost a very close friend a couple of weeks ago and he left a collection of project cars. I would like your opinions of value for a 58.
Here are the details.
Car is together but needs restoration
Good body with poor paint
Has washboard hood and original trunk irons.
No Body damage visible.
Soft top only.
Wrong door panels.
Wrong seat covers.
Correct gauges.
Good glass.
Wrong motor but period correct. Single carb
Wrong shifter
Wrong wheels
Solid frame.
Not running
All chrome is there but needs complete rechroming.
All opinions of value appreciated
Thanks
Jay

Pictures would help but poor paint will be the biggest dollar drawback in a potential sale. From your description, it appears as though it might qualify as a restomod candidate. I have no idea re: price.
I'm in there with that range.
Just only from the description, I see this as a real gem in the rough. At one time, the 58 model was sort of a "stepchild", but they are coming into their own now.
Personally, next to the 56-7 models, I have always liked a 58. In my book, it is worth the investment to restore it. All the wrong things that you pointed our are readily available as quality aftermarket reproduction. I am NOT a numbers person, but I really like original appearance. Thus, a correct appearing small block would be just fine. If I had the money, I would own that car in a heart beat!
that's what I'd ask. I wouldn't expect to get it, but it's a starting point. Of course, I'd spend a week getting it driving and cleaned up first
Well I am located 900 miles away and not able to get it driving and cleaned up. There is no one else there to take on that responsibility unless it was hired out. My friends widow is just interested in selling as is. Thanks for the input,
Jay, I don't know how much this will help, but I sold this 58 (in 2015), for $30k on ebay. ..1 small hit at headlight area, fixed; badly fixed damage around pass floor; nom engine, 4 speed, new top, new wiring harnesses in trunk, underdash wiring was a mess,, but did run and drive. I'm by no means anywhere near an expert, but I'd start around low 30's.....(maybe you can get someone to get it running)...good luck...Sorry for your loss...

Thank you John for this very helpful information and your kind words.
My opinion is $40k. Due to one year options they are commanding a premium. The trunk spears are there and are very costly to purchase. Same with hood. As previously mentioned the costliest part will be paint.
I'd get it running, go through the brakes and suspension and drive it! If bought at a fair price you would never lose a dime.
I like Craig's advice. This appears to be a good candidate as a driver. It is much nicer than I assumed it would be, given your initial description. Have some fun with it.
Yes there are multiples of cars that include a 54, two 57's, the 58 above, a 63 SW, and a 64 convertible. There are also early Fords and other street rods.Only the 58 is being discussed at this time. Located in South Texas.
