Well this was a fun upgrade. I went with 225's all around. I probably could have gone with 235's, but the drivers side rear would have been mighty close. I chose Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's for tires. They have decent reviews on tire rack, and are tailored for the old muscle cars. The car drives a lot differently now. With the 15" Coopers the rear would "wallow" - can't think of a better term - coming out of a spirited corner. The car would also wander while going straight down the road, causing me to constantly correct with the steering wheel just to go straight. With the new wheels and tires it feels planted. It takes bumps better and corners are fun. And it goes straight down the road.
Thank you Here's that C2 picture with those wheels.
I'm finding a limited selection of wheels I like in 17X7 with the 4.75 x 5 bolt pattern and a backspace around 4.25-4.5. I think these look OK, but that look might be a bit edgy for me on a C2. But as they say - the worse you want it, the worse it gets.
I've seen other related threads too, but anyone care to show your 17's?
I am pretty sure that the wheels that Factoid has on his '66 are a Rocket wheel, different model..... 17" x 7" with 4.25 BS, and they look great, in my opinion.....
Do a search for Factoid and wheels, and I imagine one his posts will pop up......
Another thing to consider if there is a certain brand/model tire you like, what are the choices in 17’s. I originally thought of 17’s but ended up with a bigger tire selection in 18’s.

Here is one of his photos.....
Yes, Factoid's L72 is one of my favorite cars on the forum. I called Holley regarding the polished version of that. They said the polished wheels are out of stock as well as Factoid's as cast version, with no immediate plans to restock them. I like that style of wheel.

What is funny to me about that style of wheel is that back in the mid '60's, my Dad had that style of wheel on his '62 Impala, and two of his friends had them on their cars as well.....
Here you go 17x7 4.25 backspace , 225/55 nitto motivo and 235/55 nitto motivo in the back . I have had them over a year and they still look new.Fronts 26.7 and the rears 27.17 diameter.

I don't know what you budget is but Summitt has this wheel (showing 6 in stock). 17X7 4" backspace $205 per wheel.
They may be available polished or chrome. Possible at an additional cost.
If the budget is very flexible Budnik,Billet Specialties, and Intro all have similar styles custom built to your specs of course longer build time and a much higher price point.

Many thanks for the info and the pics - and your 66 looks sharp. I think those wheels look great on your car. The tires look pretty tight to the body, did you have any clearance issues, or need to move your E brake cables?

Yep, that car is just eye candy, and the L72 makes it a dream car - at least to me. Thanks for posting.
I remember the Radir wheels from back in the day, but never had a set.
Did your 235's fit without too much work?
Photos of Factoid's car with 17's are what convinced me to hop in the pool....... and I can attest, the water is fine, and the added grip is grippy......
I went with US Mag wheels, 17" x 7", 4.04" backspace....... same tires Factoid has, but in a 50 series tire, instead of 55..... all has worked well, though as many have said, not all of these cars are the same.......
My understanding is that US Mag does offer this wheel in full chrome......

Agreed - it was the photos of Factoid's car that hooked me as well. And your car with your family history is just priceless. My dad drove pickups, and I wish I had any one of those.
I have to admit the gray center and polished outer rim is a looker on the Nassau Blue C2's. I'm currently running 205/75 white walls and hubcaps. It's a nice classic look, and I like the spinners on the hubcaps, but the Cooper whitewalls turn brown quickly, and those tires are a bit soft for my taste. Rather than ante up for Avon's I'd prefer to go with the 17's.

Hey six they fit great on the front and the rear i loosened up the emergency brake cable and fastened it over with some stainless ties and a quarter inch aluminum spacer, i am waiting till it gets warmer to install some van steel offset arms i have , the 235/55 has a section width of 9.88 with offset arms a guy might make it with the 245/50 nitto motivo which has a 10.33 section width but it will be close .
