Hello Corvette Forum,
I have a 66 Vette that was an old family member that sat for a while. I have it in my garage and trying to see what we have. I believe the engine in it is not original.
If any one can help decode it for me. The family members have no real answers. I will upload the pictures I found of Vin and Engine stamping.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
MG
that is a 1969 350/300 witha 4 barrel carb and th350 trans from a full size passenger car built at the Doraville Ga assembly plant. the engine was assembled on Nov 11 1968
your trim tag is for a 1966 white with black interior
Thank you.
Any way to tell what engine it should of had from factory? Here is a picture of hood. Looks like the vent is non functional.
I would assume it would be 327?
Thank you
MG
that is a 67 big block hood. a very popular thing to add to any mid year. can you post a picture of the back side of the hood. along with pictures of the metal fuel line by the fuel pump, and the dash cluster. all you have to go by is clues for the engine.

Hello here are some pictures of cluster, Hood back side, and engine in bay. Hope this helps.
Thank you

More good news, you have a nice 66 coupe with Factory AC.
the hood, although maybe a factory 67 hood, is NOT a 66 hood, so not original to the car and does nothing to show what the car came with.
but that hood could be worth alot as it is a original 67 only.
yes that is a 69 impalla 350.
also, that rust on your windshield pillar is a pretty bad sign that a major high dollar repair is pending. rust in that place usually means rust out in lots of other places.
good luck.
Since most of the interior is out, take and post some pictures of the inside kick panels. You should see the top of the bolts of the body mounts. Also, take pictures of the frame forward of the rear wheels. It is called the kick-up. Any history on the car. Where did it spend most of its driving life? Good luck, Jerry
I'm sure you have found by now that this would be a major investment and still not have the correct engine. The bird cage rust is a big, big project stopper. You have options on ways to use or sell this car, and the outcome will ultimately depend on how much you are willing to spend. I wish you luck with whatever you decide.
Hello Tampa Jerry,
This car spent its life not far from you I believe its a Florida car that was garaged until 2014, once garage lost it was covered and left under the Florida sun for the next ten years I believe. It was A Florida Westly Chapple area car all its lift I believe. It was shipped to me up in Nashville TN as I am a retired ex GM guy and have worked on cars before. But this is the 1st time I have seen the car in person. The son of the father wants an honest opinion on what it will take to make it drivable again. I am afraid to say the Bird cage is serious concern and will need pro help. I have enclosed more photos.
Thank you

That car will be a labor of love As much has a hate to say it it's parts car at best with the most value in the firewall/cowl with the vin number attached to what's left of that bird cage What I see our going to need most of the birdcage replaced and the frame. The frame is simple The bird cage not so much. Seeing how it's a non original motor car you're going to sink in a lot of coin to make it nice again. More so then you can buy a finished BB car.
Westley Chapel is about 15 minutes north of me. From the photos, it looks like the frame is in decent shape. the birdcage is another matter. I would start doing a search of midyear birdcages. I would also look up videos from Midyear Mitch. You will get a feel for what it takes to address the issues. The repair is doable, but you will need deep pockets. To give you an idea, if the body was average and needed minimal prep work, painting alone would start at $10K. I won't venture what it would cost to replace the birdcage. As said, it can be done if you have the skills, time and money. Good luck. Jerry
The rusted roof trip gutters are not that uncommon a problem, or that big of a deal. Both America's Finest and Caledonia Classic Cars make high quality reproductions of the gutter.
From what I can see of the hinge pillar and the frame, I don't see anything else that looks like an issue. The kick panels appear to be off so what does it look like behind them? Get some pictures behind the hinges and the general area below the door hinges including the number 2 body mount. Also try to get a look at the back of the lock pillar, especially in the area where the drip gutter meets the lock pillar. Finally go inside the rear wheel well and remove the little inspection plates in front of the tires to get a shot of the number 3 body mounts behind the plates. If the area inside of the hinge pillars and number 2 body mounts, along with the lock pillars and mount 3 body mounts all look fairly decent or only have some surface or minimal rust, then the rust may be confined to the drip gutters, which any competent Corvette or restoration shop can replace fairly easily.
