I found this in the "orphan" section yesterday and wondered what SN car this would belong to. I was actually looking for paperwork and never expected to see this. It's states it's for a 1962 327/340, but I need help with figuring this out. My car came with a so called "decked block", so the engine stamp was missing and wondered if this could be the original? Last 6 digits of my vin are 114016.
Looks like they combined the VIN # stamp and the engine assembly stamp. The VIN appears to be for '63, #2283. For sure the engine stamp begins at the F (Flint engine plant, Oct. 16, RE code below). If '63, then it was in a 340hp 4-speed car – wouldn't be the one from your '62, but very close.
Thanks 67:72!! It didn't make sense to me either. But since it was listed as 62 340hp I wanted to confirm with someone who knew. I'm long past caring if the decked engine in my car is correct, but was looking for any orphan paperwork I might find.

Getting the casting date of the block would also confirm what year it was likely install in when new.
