[C2] Brake light problem
Need technical help.
67 Roadster right rear tail light operation with no reverse light option
Key off:
step on brakes right side not operational.
put left signal light on step on brake right side works.
put parking lights on both sides work.
key on:
everything operates same as above.
put right signal on and it works.
I'm thinking something in the signal light switch itself but I'm no mechanic any help would be appreciated.
One, the reverse light wasn't an option in 67. It was the rectangular lens above the tail light and has no connection to the tail and brake lights except that they are both grounded to the black wires.
Two, you say with the key off and the turn signal to the left, the right brake light works. You don't say what happens if you move the turn signal to the right OR if the left nor do you say if the left turn signal works with the key on.
Forget the tail lights, they are separate filaments and separate wires, though they share the bulb. (two filaments in each bulb).
The test is with the key OFF, step on the brake. Both brake lights should come on. Turn the signal to the left (Key OFF) and the left brake lights should go off and the right one stay on. Then move the turn signal to the right, the right side should go off and the left side come back on.
You're probably right about the turn signal contacts being the problem and they can be adjusted (bent) if you take it apart. Run the test I suggested and report back what happens to your brake lights ONLY. Leave key off and tail lights OFF.
Edited:
Lost track that we were talking about a 67 the turn signal switch picture I put up was for 64 65 67.
Check all your wire connections under the dash by the steering column make sure all the wires are pushed in, if it's in your turn signal switch you'll have to replace it.
still try stepping on the brake and wiggling your turn signal stalk to see if it affects your brake lights in anyway

The green and the yellow wires carry whichever signal (brake or turn) to the rear the turn signal contacts tell it to by pushing those two contacts on the white wire post. They both touch with turn signal in the center and whichever way you move the lever, it interrupts the brake lights to that side and inserts the turn signal flasher signal instead.
left side lights operated correctly in all tests with key on or off.
right side is the problem.
please reread my prior post. I edited it. I forgot we were talking about a 67 at the end. That's the wrong picture.
