[C2] Need help decoding this big block
It may have come out of a 65 corvette?
Here are pics of the block casting number and stamp pad
I can't tell if those are 3's or 8's on the casting
A couple of the numbers on the stamp pad are hard to read
I am guessing the last two letters on the first number on the stamp pad is ET, but ??
T0906ET??
Thanks
Glenn
Here are three pics of the same thing
T0906ET = Assembly date. Tonawanda, NY September 6. Engine Suffix ET 1968 396/325 HP Chevelle w/ TH-400
VIN derivative- 1= Chevrolet 8= 1968. Can't read the third character. It is a letter that represents the Assembly plant. i.e. A for Atlanta, L for Los Angeles

The engine turned out to be a 68-vintage 396. It too was in very good shape, pulled 40-50 pounds of oil pressure and after cleaning up the distributor, wires and plugs, it ran great. The bone stock 325 horse 396 is
very mild, not so much due to the overall engine size or compression but the cam. The stock 325 cam is the mildest Bigblock cam they offered. Good torque till the high 4K range and after that, you're out of luck. Pic is of the rear bellhousing flange cast numbers.
With the addition of a midrange spec cam, flat tappet or roller, the 396 can be a good performer, from idle on up. Is this a potential replacement engine you are looking at?

Yes, this is the engine that was lying on the floor at the place that the car in the other thread is at.
It is one option among the many suggestions there
Is it worth considering and is there a ballpark of how much it is worth?
