Default Basic Question Reading Wiring Diagram

Hi Everyone
Before I continue replacing a couple wires in the ignition circuit, I want to Double Check my reading of the wiring diagram and sourcing of correct crimped connectors.

Question 1: In the picture below, I've highlighted a couple notations of "18P" - - I am reading this as 18 Gauge (AWG), Pink jacketed wire. Likewise, "18LG" would be "18g Light Green"...
I don't see a 'key' to the abbreviations and we all know what happens when we Assume we're right....

I don't know the load on the ignition circuit, but 18g seems awfully small and I don't want to create new problems in replacing a shorted wire.
To help provide context - You might recall that I shorted this wire against Ignition shielding back in Dec. I pulled everything open and confirmed all the other wires loomed together are un-harmed !
So I am replacing Pink from Ignition Switch to Coil then re-taping the wire loom.

Question 2: As a second part of this - Does anybody have a source for the heavier duty crimped connectors shown below ?
I can find plenty of wimpy looking things from Local Auto Parts/Lowes/Etc but haven't found anything equivalent to these.

Appreciate your help !
Kevin

Question 1 - You are correct about your interpretations.

Somebody here might know where to find that wire terminal. A call to one of the vendors that supply entire reproduction harnesses might also turn up a solution.

Live well,

They are called Packard wire terminals. Ebay and many other places sell them. To do it right also requires a special Packard crimp tool. Also on Ebay, and from others.

FYI, in case it facilitates your search, the nomenclature for terminal on the left is a "flag tongue terminal" and the one on the right is a "spade tongue terminal".

Good luck!

thanks Jim and all - I knew the ‘Flag Tongue’ and ‘Spade tongue’ nomenclature from way back when I actually worked as engineer … will use it to continue searching EBay
BTW - I don’t generally like EBay but was able to source a NOS ‘DR 686’ ignition switch complete with the cardboard insert on the bulb for short money.

thx again for the replies

That’s a flag fork terminal and this is the closest I could find.

Typically the industrial supply houses like Grainger and McMaster-Carr carry good quality electrical terminals. I much prefer using non-insulated terminals and to crimp them properly you need a good quality tool. My favorite for the past 40+ years is the Thomas & Betts Sta-Kon crimping pliers like these:

Thanks Factoid & TAlvarez;

I also found those non-insulated connectors but never did find anyone carrying the ‘Packard’ style except for the ‘Type 56’ blade & Receiver style. I have a nice Ideal Crimp tool with a couple extra die sets that match the linked plier style crimper.

I put it all back together and got her running this afternoon! I left a couple extra inches in the new runs so I can swap out the connectors if I come across any

again -Thx to all for your support !
