[C1] Avoid Potential Scams
i recently made a post looking for a plasticon hardtop for my 54’ corvette. In the ad, I included my number for people to be able to reach out to me easily as I’m not always on the site to check for notifications. I was recently reached out to by a guy whom informed me that he has one of the 7 55 Corvettes with the blue flame engine and he has not only a plasticon top but also the all clear bubble top as well, both of which he’s willing to part with. He sent me a picture of the corvette with the plasticon and a picture of the bubble top. We negotiated on plasticon top, then he told me I can send him the funds through PayPal with “Family & Friends”. I responded telling him I rather send the funds as “Goods & Services” and I’ll even put some extra money in there to cover the fees. He responded telling me not to send the funds that way because he was scammed that way before because the buyer made a claim and won, so PayPal refunded the buyer the money and kept the item… therefore, he will only accept the funds as “Friends & Family”. I was very skeptical so I finally reached back out to him and asked for a letter with todays date on it in front of the hardtop.
Funny moment time: he sends me photo of the letter (you can see his hand holding the letter) in front of the hardtop. When you look at the background you can see this is the same picture of the car that he sent me days prior that he just zoomed in on and edited the letter in to make it look official.
when I called him out on the edited photo he told me it’s not edited and that the car sat in the same spot (remind you outside) and he took the new picture. You can clearly see from both picture the sun shining in the same spot on the roof, the same sky in the background and other little details.
when I told him I was going to make a post and report him on this forum he said he would sue me for defamation. Haha I guess he didn’t read my profile that I’m an attorney.
please be aware! This guys number is (769) 225-71xx
please see photos attached.

At the very least its tax evasion but usually its a scam.
OP, was this person a forum member? Do you have a screen name?

I then went to the BBB website and found the seller had a low rating and used multiple addresses in Delaware if I recall correctly. I learned the hard way from my transaction, the internet is full of scams and PayPal will not stand behind the buyer as they claim the will. I now try to avoid PayPal for payments also.

Why can't we go back to cash? The government wouldn't be able to track our income and spending! Go figure.

I avoid payments other than credit cards. I find that CC companies have your back much more and it's easy to contest charges and stop payments.
