‘67 TriPower Air Filter
K&N has air filters on sale (again) and I’m considering replacing the stock foam air filter with a K&N on my ‘67 L71. Foam filters from the Corvette aftermarket vendors run $35+/- plus shipping (another $10-15 bucks). My foam filter is starting to look a little ratty. The K&N filter is $80 with free shipping. I realize the K&N won’t be NCRS correct (car top flighted 10 years ago… I’ll keep the stock filter screen and foam) however, curious to hear opinions on stock VS the K&N. I have the K&N cleaner and red spray oil already so, no added expense there.
Years ago, my friend who was a salesman from an Auto parts store showed me a video on how POORLY K&N filters clean after one cleaning....... I wouldn't use one on my lawnmower....
This is my opinion only, if you would have bought the k&n a long time ago, you would have saved some money on replacing the paper filters. The other good thing it does it lets in a little more air. But the bad part is cleaning a filter is not something i like to do..Now for the worst part.it lets in more air but it also lets in more dirt. Fleet vehicles don't use them for that reason. This is my opinion only,,,, others ideas will be different
I've got one! I don't drive it much! I've had them on all my Corvettes which I don't drive very much! I always thought it would be an improvement. Cleaning and reoiling the K&N filters is not a big issue.
Her is your "AI" overview!
"K&N air filters generally receive positive reviews, with many users citing ease of installation, longevity, and a slight improvement in engine responsiveness and fuel efficiency. However, some users report mixed results regarding performance gains and filter effectiveness, while others express concerns about the possibility of oiling affecting the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF)."
I put K&N on every vehicle I own & have ever since they came out & never had an issue with them. IF they are effecting the MAF you over oiled them. Cleaning & oiling is a breeze using their cleaning spray. Way cheaper than continually buying new filters & IMHO they flow much better.
