New problem with Fuel meter
My Fuel meter, like many, had always been wonky - jumping ~1/4 tank whenever the brake was touched. I finally ran a wire from one of the screws on the float flange to the frame and - Bingo - it read just fine. Until now. I remember that the last time I drove her, the fuel gauge seemed lower than I thought it should be for how many miles I had driven. Today, when I got in, it read 'E'. No evidence of a leak anywhere. With some trepidation, i drove the 4 miles to the nearest gas station and filled up. It took just over 10 gallons. The gauge, however, only read just above 1/2. Driving home, the gauge would move with cornering or braking, but not from touching the brake peddle. When I got home a dip string confirmed the tank was full.
What could be causing this incorrect reading? Nothing changed from a couple days ago, yet something DID change. I have no idea what.
