The problem is the ice melt, salt, and pre-treat they put on the roads.
I live across the river from Sevent6 & wanted to take the Vette out Wednesday after work for some exercise, but they were already the pre-treat down. 😒😒

In March 1971, when I moved from Vancouver to Ottawa to a new job, I drove my 1961 with an L79, and 4.11 posi, equipped with snow tires, and chains on the floor in front of the passenger seat, just in case. All my worldly posessions were crammed into the trunk and piled to the roof on the passenger seat, with skis and a bicycle tied to a rack on the trunk lid. It was quite an adventure.
Ahhh, the blizzard of 78. At the start of the snow, 6" or so, drove Rt 51 to Clinton IL to get milk and bread. Rt51 was barricaded at the north end of town. Cop told me I couldn't come into Clinton as Rt 51 was closed. Started to argue, he put his hand on his Glock. Back to Wapella, and we got a couple of feet of snow and high winds. Snow up to the eaves on the west side of the house, 10 ft+.. Rt 51 was then closed with over 10 ft drifts. Had to clear one lane with end loaders, destroyed cars abandoned on the road. Lost power first day of the storm and heated with the kitchen gas range. The neighbors with an all electric house moved in with us for 2 weeks until power was restored.
The GOOD OLE DAYS!! Almost made me feel qualified to be a Canadian.
Since then haven't had more than a couple of feet of snow at a time. Only 8 in. forecasted for today. The old HO can handle that.
OK this is a dumb question, but do they announce when they are using salt on the roads or do you just know it by the weather? I have never lived in an area where salt has been an issue except for ocean spray.
Usually - around here anyway - the highway department dump trucks have a plow on the front, and the salt spreader in back. When they go out, they can use one, the other, or both at once, depending on conditions. They don't announce it, it's just normal.
Over the years, the salt will eat away a whole vehicle. I still have an '05 F150 I bought new, and it's considerably lighter than when it left the factory. I try to use that as much as possible in winter to keep the newer one out of the slush, but it doesn't always work out that way.
In those early years of Corvette ownership my 63 was a daily driver and never babied!! Snow drift running was just another fun thing to do in a Corvette. Once when running drifts I got in a rut and carried off the road in a shallow ditch alone out in the country. Rocking it back and forth allllmost got it out but not quite. Finally in desperation I rocked it back far enough to get a spring assist from a woven wire fence and the momentum carried me back on the road to run through more snow drifts.
Pictured below is me driving out into the Chicago 27 inch snow storm to get groceries. Some of the best of times.

Fun in the 1978 snow storm.
In the 80's I put on a snow-khana with our local Corvette Club. Mostly street cars (except for my 64 that son is continuing restoration) and another members 67 coupe. A few street cars and a blazer, but a Porsche 914 was the hands-down winner.
PS, I think Corvettes were way more fun when their value was placed on fun and entertainment instead of Dollars.

Blizzard 78, I bought this car in Irie, Pa. sight unseen. I wanted a Goodwood/Saddle small block car and through a friend of a fried of a friend I found out about this this one. Being an air traffic controller, I rode the jump seat from Houston, Cleveland, then Erie. Had cash with me ($3,500), did transaction, and drove back to Cleveland to spent the night. It had stared to snow pretty good by this time, but luckily, I found a parking spot beside the hotel right by the lobby and next to the street. The next morning, I found out why that spot wasn't taken, the car was covered with about two feet of snow all the \way back to the gas cap from the street snow removal equipment.
A friend had flown to Cleveland we met and drove non-stop to Houston. We never got above forty the snow was so bad, and it lasted all the way to Little Rock. Then it turned to black ice. I found that Posi track and ice makes a C2 a handful to keep under control. Anyhow, fun trip for a couple of young guys, the car performed flawlessly except we couldn't get it warm inside, we even put cardboard in front of the radiator.
Although I love my 67 coupe this was probably my favorite Corvette of the five C2s I've owned.
Is that green ? Looks like mine(when I get it) just purchased. . Except I have saddle int.
Thanks for the replies, I have seen the results of salt on cars and I can understand why you folks put them away in winter. I guess every place has some drawbacks. You folks have salt we have high taxes and idiots for politicians.

Oh, wait, before I go and not to brag (much), but no snow yet in the Sierra so I had my '63 roadster out yesterday and again today. PG, PS, PB, PW, 327/300.... what a pleasant, comfortable car.
