An issue I am having is that I am in the process of installing a new 14" steering wheel to create more room in the drivers seat. I am installing a steering hub from Forever Sharp Steering Wheels. It is an A09 Hub. The entire turn signal canceling unit works well. The previous owner actually made a panel and mounted it to the bottom of the dash panel. I have no idea why he did this. My plan is to relocate it to the steering wheel which has solder tabs on the bottom of the horn button. The hub kit came with a spring plunger which I have surmised is not needed because there is no part to fit it in to and therefore has no function. I do see that there is another type of turn signal cancelling cam that requires the use of this type of this plunger . I think it is used on a '67 'Vetet as well as C10 trucks. My plan is to route the wire from the relay up through the steering column to the horn button and solder it to the horn button. I am seeking advice to make sure I have not left out a part. Please feel free to give advice.
Well you lost me. What is the purpose of the "panel"? I would suggest you contact the manufacturer of the hub.
This video is LONG... but there are some gems buried in it!
I used it to repair and adjust my turn signal hub... and it's worked perfectly for almost 10 years now.
cbernhardt. The previous owner removed the horn wire, made a panel and mounted a horn button in between two on/off flip switches that control the electric fuel pump and the electric radiator fan. This mounting bracket (panel) is not a stock item. I did contact Forever Steering about their hub and they direct ed me to two or three videos. The only problem with that is that they do not have a video specifically for my car. But, between their videos. I was able to figure out how to install the hub. My nex project is to remove the horn push button NO switch button and relocate it to the horn button. Now, I hope you are no longer lost.
jforb, Upon further review, I put my glasses on and was able to take a closer look at t he NO Push Button Hor Switch he installed. The fact is that there are only two wires. The third one did not go to this switch. By this time I was tired of working on the cars (I am also restoring a '67 Mustang) and will resume tracing the wires tomorrow. I will let you know what I find out tomorrow night.
Upon further review, I found that the former guy used the original wiring harness, added some different colored wire, rewrapped them and left me with somewhat of a mess to trace. But, when I get more time, I will do more tracing. I found the relay and I will trace the tan wire back through the mess to make sure the green wire he used on the horn button mounted on the plate hanging under the dash. It is hot and I am pretty certain that it is connected to the tan wire going to the relay. The other wire (green as well) on the other switch terminal is the ground wire according to my meter so I can cut it. I will then connect another piece of tan wire and run it up through the column to the connecting spade (I hope he did not eliminate it) on the part that the plunger rides on when the steering wheel is turned. This has been an experience and I really do appreciate everyone's help. Had the videos I saw included every little detail, I would not have had to go through all of this. If I had the knowledge of how to get an article on the internet, I could actually do this specifically for the '62 'Vette. But, I don't. Or I could have done what I have done with all my other builds which was replace the steering column and the wiring harness, which made everything so much easier.. The '67 Mustang was no problem since all I did was change out the steering wheel to a 14" one. Again, thaanks for all your help. I am sure I will need more before it is over.
