I just got a new set of bolt-on knock-offs for my 66 coupe, and when I removed the right rear wheel I could see where the rear sway bar bolt had hit the frame. I can tell its not doing it all the time, also the right rear wheel hangs down farther than the drives side. Could I have a broken main leaf? The ride height has always been low on the car, and still sits level and drives fine. I beleive the car has F41 cause it has a seven leaf spring. Also I see where you guys talk about rear spring weight witch I understand ,but how do you know witch spring to get to maintain the correct ride height.
Theoretically 7 leafs and 9 leafs should be close to the same ride height. The spring rate is measured by how much force it takes to deflect the spring from the design height. How much the wheel hangs down when the car is jacked up is more dependent on other things than how strong the spring is. Like shocks, missing yoke clips, sway bars etc.
:iagree: If the car sits level on the ground, and the spring has no visible problems, it's not likely to be a spring problem. How are the sway bar links and bushings?
If the links are not straight (they can get bent) and/or the rubber link bushings are shot, the bar will relocate wherever it wants. :lurk:
SS39d6, Can you post a photo ?? in my case put on Composite rear spring on my 66 big/block , very satisfied & worked for me (installed myself). :seeya :steering: The Dog :flag
SS39d6,
I agree with StrayDog. I have a VB glass spring in my '67 BB driver and am very happy with it. I have a spare VB 360 lb/in spring I used one day
in my '65 BB Auto-X car that I'm looking to get rid of. If you decide to go
with a glass mono-spring.let me know I can make you a good deal on
mine. Let me know if you're interested.
