Anybody having trouble typing threads. My computer does not echo back what I am typing. it takes FOREVER to see what I have typed. Seems like this should be a local function but for some reason the computer seems like it is communicating very slowly with the server. Any ideas?????
Cable modem and I think it is specific to me and the corvette forum. Everything else I use (other forums) are working fine...Just CF is screwed. Cookies screwed up? There are other guysscreaming about performance on pictures. I type an entire sentence then the words appear one letter at a time. It is like something is preventing the letters from appearing as I type and believe me I don't type that fast. Screwed up cookies?????I reset them this morning and still no luck. Are there specific configs in my profile? I don't see anything but?????? In my old IT days this was sometimes controlled by something called Echo /On /Off or type ahead or something but other forums like the Chevelle forum work fine so I don't think it is my PC. Why would it work on other forums and not on CF unless CF had something screwed up?????
I have dial-up through Compuserve. I've had a problem with typing faster than the computer responds on some websites but not here. This forum is very slow for me though, and it discourages me from hanging out for any length of time.
I am using SBC DSL. I love it. The Forum is ultra, ultra fast.
Contract with SBC is through AOL. Costs $20/month on top of the regular AOL contract. Don't slam the AOL....only reason I have it is so my 8 year old can have his own managed account for no extra bucks.
No problems here either. Have you tried resetting your modem? I've occasionally had slowdowns that were cured by doing so, though it affected all connections and not just here. I have experienced what you described before though. It used to happen on our system at work sometimes. Something to do with different, non-compatible, networks being used at the same time. It tricked the microprocessor into trying to process all of the applications on one of them even though I wasn't running them.
Oman - if you are using ie5,6,7,8,,,, click the tools word at the top, select internet options and on the general tab click delete files, adding offline files to the delete will help. On your hard drive, with all other windows closed use a file display (Windows Explorer on Windows machines) and delete everything in the temp folder.
I was using IE 5.5 to access the forum but after the switchover to the new style forum and server, I started having the exact same problem Oman mentions. Letters, not to mention sentences took FOREVER to load on the screen! .. I downloaded Netscape 7.0 and only use it for the Corvetteforum website. That took care of the problem. I don't know what the conflict was with IE .. ? ..
You know I have done a lot of house cleaning and fix up on the PC and performance is much better EVERYWHERE but here. This forum is still screwed when I type. It honestly is unuseable and it is ONLY here and it only is the last couple of days. Might be my modem but why is it ONLY on this forum? Can someone pass this on to the mods or tech support guys. I can't stand typing like this. Everything except the modem reset has been fone.
THERE IS A SETTING someplace that this Forum is using that is messing me up.. The mods or tech support types can E-Mail me at The_Oman49@hotmail.com.
(TheOman) I have been having problems with this forum on my computer also. My problem is that my computer freezes up at times while on the forum and I can't get out of it by just holding CTRL,ALt and Delete. It doesn't help. The computer just locks up and the only thing I can do is shut the computer down and restart it to go back online. I don't have a problem typing or doing anything else with the forum though and I am still using dial-up internet service. I have tried everthing I can think of deleting Temp internet files doing a scan disc and disc defragmentation but nothing seems to help. I am wondering if anyone else is having the same problem I have encountered. :banghead:
