I was wondering if some could help me decode my rear diff. numbers? They are 2CA0112585W. I a copy of the 65 section of corvette by the numbers (I think). The reason I ask is because there are a lot more numbers on the bottom of the carrier then the info I have decodes. I thought maybe that the rear is from a different year.
In my copy of "Cars and Parts Corvette ID Numbers" they list a 1970 CAO rear axle code as a 3.70 gear ratio w/350 engine and close ratio 4 speed.
The "2" before the CAO is of little interest. I have seen the 2 before the axle codes before, I'm not sure what they mean but they seem to be on 68 and later axles.
The numbers on your axle that follow the CAO don't match the example in the book, but I'm guessing the date is 11/25 (1969) I'm not sure what the 85 is for, but the W denotes the Warren plant.
I think 1970 is the only year that uses the 3 digit codes on the rear axles. The books I have show the 71 and later rears using 2 letter codes like the midyears and early sharks.
