Tom, I've used Stewart's too. They fixed my speedometer on my '58. I called them last week about fixing the odometer on my '64. The old mechanic who used to do this said he doesn't do it anymore. Too hard to get in there. He suggested taking it to a Corvette specialist!!

maybe if you just took the spedo out of the car and took the unit to them they would fix it. :chevy

i would guess 96% still exist.
1% wrecked so bad nothing was left.
3% stolen for parts
.
number driven at least once a month? 10%

Well
you know at least 10% still exist.
unless you go back to the yard, and it was crushed.
If the yard sells the frame, and it is on another car, does it still exist?

I'm talking of existing to be able to drive.
If the frame from one vehicle is put in another vehicle, the way I look at it, where there were two, there is now one -- and, there is only one if there is a complete vehicle.

Well that's my previous 10% that ARE being driven, plus maybe another 5% that are ready to go.
the rest are just at best works of art, and at worst a shell in a yard.

Tom,
Own #517 built in Sept 63. Bought it for my 21st birthday. Owned it for 27 years now. I did hear at one point in time that there were more 64 cars registered with the corvette registry than were actually built. Don't know for sure, but do know mine is a rather rare Daytona blue exterior with a navy blue interior, 300hp, 4spd, AM/FM car. I will never sell it. Just hoping to buy another some day. :)

Instead of counting sheep one night, I counted 1964 Corvettes and got to 12,435 before I started dreaming about a 1964 Cheetah.

Mine was also made in Sept 63. Along with the normal early '64 stuff, it has a '63 exhaust panel and bezels.

Numbers
13925 Convertables. I don't know how many are still out there but there is one in my garage, in Monongahela, PA with 78000 miles. All original. 327/365.

Seems like the '64 is the year of choice for those building a replica GS. That may in it self bring the numbers down. Mine just had its 50th. birthday on October 29th. Great cars, drum brakes and all!

I pulled one out of a garage 6 months ago. It's a low optioned coupe with just the 300hp engine. It's now road worthy, and just went on a 100 mile cruise with a car club and did well. I have some issues with valve seals I'm addressing but overall, being a numbers matching negelected car, it has a good future with me.

The previous owner of my #386 365 4 spd, convertible, Satin Silver Metalic w/ Black interior, bought it in '71', took it off the road to restore in '79' and never finished it. I bought it about 3 1/2 years ago and hope to have it back on the road next summer. By the way, the one thing he did do is swap the drums for a later midyear set of discs.
