I am running a set of SHP double hump heads, 64cc, 2.02/1.60 valves. I have started looking at the Dart Pro aluminum heads, 64cc, 2.05/1.60 valves.
I guess my questions are:
1. How good are the double hump heads?
2. Will I see any noticable performance improvements with the Dart heads?
3. How much weight will I save going with Al vs. iron.
4. Are the double hump heads worth anything if I want to sell them?
I depends on what is under the heads, on top in the way of manifold and carb. The heads bone stock out flow the stock heads by a wide gap. The intake and exhaust runners are a lot bigger. The valve pockets are much better and last the vales are bigger, not always a plus.
I'm guessing they are about 40 pounds lighter for the pair.
Original heads don't do it for me but I'm sure there is a market if they are in good condition and not hacked to death.
No doubt! You can run a little higher compression with aluminum heads, say a 1/2 point. Adjust the combustion chamber size a little and you're there.
Do your self a big favor, check spark plug type and fit. I have a set of fast burn heads and a $750 set of custome built headers to clear all the goodies.
You could save some money by having the heads pocket ported and port matched. (This however won't remove much weight.) Flow Technology in Garden Grove, CA does excellent work. See my post in the C3 section under Dyno Day Revisited for my mods and hp ratings.
With a far milder setup on my '64 331 CI did 293 hp at the wheels on the dyno.
