Default 62 - initial dwell setting?

Im putting in a new set of points, condensor, and plugs. How do I set the dwell initially to get it started?

I dont have a dwell meter but I will probably just head to Sears and get a dwell tach volt meter for $30.00 for the fine adjustment after the fact.

Point setting of 0.018" is ball park for 30 degrees, by all means beg, borrow, or steal a dwell/tach meter.

:iagree:
A "snug" .016" will get you right at about 29-30 degrees dwell. Once set and fired up, use a dwell meter to get the dwell into the 30-31 degree range.

Word of caution on dwell meters: I have bought various dwell meters from Checker and Autozone. Running them against my calibrated Sun machine, the meters have been off by 5 to 10 degrees. The worst meter I have tested was a Sears Craftsman analog multi-tester: The dwell was off by 12 to 15 degrees. I'm currently running a Sears Digital Multimeter, and this one is right on the money.
