Default Header fit issue

Putting Hooker Comps on the '67. Driver's side header went on fine, but the collector exit is very close to the corner where the firewall and transmission tunnel intersect. The reducer wouldn't even bolt on until I cut off part of it. Now it has very little clearance, maybe 1/8 inch. I can do some more cutting on the reducer, but wanted to see if anyone else had similar issues with fitting these headers. Good clearance to motor mount, oil filter, clutch linkage.

I’m sorry Wayne this issue hasn’t received more attention from the Hot Roding and performance guys who post here and unfortunately I’m not going to be much help, in fact I’m going to most likely be in the same position as you as my new set of Hooker Headers should be showing up by weeks end for my 66 convrt. Hopefully you/we will get some response as a result of this tred moving back to the top.

It will be interesting to see how they fit your car. I don't know how old this set is that I bought used. Maybe they've changed the design or these were just made badly but fit the other guy's shark OK.

Anyway, this morning I took them to an exhaust shop and had the collectors shortened about 3 inches or so. This won't be a performance issue because I'm running full exhaust after the collectors, and the http://www.headerdesign.com header design program indicates the Hooker collectors are too large in diameter anyway. My 2.5 inch pipes are actually the correct collector diameter for my engine.

They should fit great now. Unfortunately I now have to shoot on another coat of paint as the cut-and-weld job scratched them up pretty good.

i bought a set of hedman headers for my 65 and they didnt fit.the oil filter was too close, i was using the bolt on piece to use a screw on oilfilter i dont know if that was causing clearance issues but the headers did not work i had to return them, i may try the hooker headers next.  :seeya :seeya

I am another user of Hooker Super Comp headers on my '66 coupe. The fit was poor in the same spot you mentioned. I called Hooker and they checked some old photos of the headers installed. They said the collectors were close to the foot boxes but did clear (a header 1/4" from the fiberglass is not fitting in my book). Mine actually hit the foot boxes. They were unresponsive beyond that. I cannot understand why they don't make the small change needed to get these things to fit properly. I ended up having the collectors cut off and moved as you did. I kept the length the same and canted the collectors inward to clear the foot boxes. You think Hooker would care about these kinds of problems, but they don't seem to........
