My '65 frame flexes under acceleration and when supported by jack stands on the main frame rails. The top of the door jambs open up about 3/16" - 1/4". There has been a crack that developed on the bottom of the driver's side jamb, and some of the panels have separated at the top of the passenger side jamb.
The car did have some cracked welds on the frame previously that have been repaired, and it flexes less than it used to. The frame does NOT have rust damage.
Are the conditions I've described normal or should I be worried?????
That's pretty much normal. Mid-year frames, although well designed for their time, are very flexible, especially when compared to the modern stuff. C3s weren't much better. The convertibles are especially bad because they don't benefit from the full cage and roof structure of the coupes.
Wow - no flex at all? My frame was repaired where the kick ups meet the main frame rails - the welds had cracked. Also the triangulating plates on the bottom of the frame between the main rail and the crossmember in that area.
This was done with the body on, so access was limited. Anywhere else I should look?
