I removed the hood to do some work. In addition, I took the brackets off to do some cleaning. How I have a frustrating experience trying to align the hood up for closing.
Any tips:
Is the side to side adjustment done via the bolts to the hood itself. Or, do you try to do the adjustments off the bolts that secure the hinge to the body. Very frustrating - there is alo t of play. Does anyone have a system or is it trial and error?
OK, I know that this is really no help, and that you will want to slap me for this response, but here it is anyway. I have pulled the hood on my car a number of times, but I always trace the locations of all supports, hinges, before I unbolt anything. It then has always gone back the easy way. Any adjustments I have needed to do were on hinge to body. I think you may be in for a trial and error. Good luck!
Leave all the bolts body side and hood side just snug enough to be able to move the hood with little force. close the hood move it around till it lines back up then slowly open the hood just enough so you can reach one bolt at each point of the hinges. tighten and check your lines when they are right, open the hood and tighten all bolts. Its not that hard just take your time
Play in hinges is cause by failed hood hinge spring washers. Get new hinges
or
drill out the rivet and insert a 1/4x20 bolt with a nylock nut. Put a nylon washer between the hinge halves and tighten the bolt/nylok until there is no play.
IMO, set/align the bayonet receivers to accept the bayonets after the hinges are tight and the hood is aligned.
