Default Charging system problem

When I got my 61 out of winter hibernation for the first time, the amp gage was pegged to the positive above 2500rpms. It was determined that it was the generator causing the problem and was rebuilt. Now the amp gage is showing a very small discharge while running at cruise or above 2500 rpms and with each accessory that is turned on such as headlights, radio etc. the discharge gets greater. After driving the car all day and returning home,it took almost nine hours on the battery tender to recharge the battery. Why isn't the battery being charged? As far as I could tell before haveing the generator rebuilt the voltage reg. was fine.

chances are your, generator cooked the VR while it was putting out all those amps.

I had a similiar problem. it is likely that your VR is off all the time now and you were simply running off the battery alone.

change the VR and you should be fine.

I have a spare voltage regulator to try on the car. I seem to remember though that changing the VR requires flashing the field. I don't remember the procedure and the ST-12 does not detail it. It is is in the 61 passenger shop manual which I don't have. Any help would be appreciated.
