What paint do i need to freshen up my shifter console, the black paint is faded and has some scrathes in it, it think some spraypaint will do, but which one to keep the factory apperance colour?
I used the black spray dye typically used for carpet and door panels. It is thin enough that it doesn't fill in the grain on the flat surface of the console, and it has stuck well for the last three years.
I first sprayed the console with paint stripper and carefully cleaned off all the old paint. I then taped off the chrome trim, and sprayed several very light coats. After painting I used rags and toothpicks with lacquer thinner to clean off any overspray.
It is a really easy job to do and it makes the interior much nicer.
Thomas since your a long way from the US you may not want to do this and can find paint locally. But you can order paint from Corvette Central or Long Island Corvette or several other vendors. I have the black paint for my 1965 which I bought from Corvette Central and it matched the console when I did some touch ups perfectly.
I used Krylon semi flat #1613 and it seemed to match exactly and you could still see the texture of the console.
I masked off everything that I didn't want to paint then gave it several light coats. It took about an hour start to finish and came out great.
Can You tell me were to buy the Krylon paint in the US, i have a friends car going to Denmark by ship within this week, and the paint could be send along.

Thomas,
Don't mean to jump in hear and steal the thread, but I'm sure they can find it at a "Home Depot, Lowes, WalMart,Target" type of stores. Also it might be in a "Pep Boys" auto store... If they don't get it and you can't find it, I would think some kind person can send it to you if it's possible...
Since you are across the pond thought you might like to know of another Mid Year owner in Stockholm, Sweden. He is a member of the American Mid Year Society and posted several pictures of his car. You can make direct contact with him and other Mid Year owners by going to www.midyear.org He just might be able to help you find parts etc. You'll find his '66 Silver Coupe on page 15 when you search "all" or you can be specific and search '66 coupe 327/300.
Thomas,
Joe is correct. It is very easy to find in the U.S..
I would be happy to buy some and send it to you if you couldn't find it but I don't know if it's a problem sending spray cans in the mail especially over seas.
Let me know if you have a problem getting some and I'll see what I can do.
It would be great if You could just send it to the shipping company in California, ill be sending You an email within the next 2-3 days, then we can talk about payment methods.
Thanks again.
Buy the way spray cans can not be shipped by air!
PS. how do i post a picture, dosent seem to work for me?
I'm leaving in about an hour for Carlisle.
I'll be back in a couple of days.
Get me the information on what shipping company your talking about in California and I'll do what I can.
Talk to you soon, Mark
Thanks for Your answer, i ordered the paint on the internet and got the shop to deliver it to the shipping company, it just took a few minutes to find out, so it was easy, thanks anyway.
