I Have a chance to buy a 60 corvette, just curious if it is worth the asking price. I'm new to this forum, also new to old vettes. I presently have a 57 2dr ht. This car is roman red, with white coves, number matching 2/4 270 hp, fresh paint, new soft top, but no hard top. The car is very nice, and very original as far as I can tell. The gentleman is asking 38,000.00 for it. It's never been advertised. I appreciate any help.
If it's been completly restored thats about what it has cost me to buy one and completly restore it. (doing all the work myself) If it's just nice with good paint, but needs restoring, thats high and you could still need to put alot of bucks in it. If it's been restored and he has lots of receipts for suspension parts, wireing, etc. thats a good price.
Get somebody that has done a restoration on one (that you can trust) to look at it for you.
Good luck
Larry
I would get the NCRS judging manual for that car, read it cover to cover and then look at the car again. They are extremly helpful. It is a lot cheaper to buy the book and know what you are getting into rather than make a $38K mistake.

Make sure you know the car that you are looking at with a solid background. It is not an unreasonable price if it close to perfect.
If it is indeed a "nice" car, solid body and frame, and reasonably original, you will be hard pressed to find one cheaper. It's hard to buy any kind of solid axle for less than $30K that's halfway decent, and it would take a lot more than $8K to transform "halfway decent" into "nice". Forget perfect. "Perfect" starts in around $60K and goes up.
Thanks for the responses. The car isn't perfect (I'm not sure I ever seen one that was) but it's one of the nicer ones I've seen in this area. What I do know is that the motor is A matching number motor, And every thing in the interior looks like the pictures I've seen of original 60's. Has the wonderbar radio, and all the chrome looks great. When he bought the car, it had a aftermarket injection system on it. He bought the intake, and two fours from A guy that said they came off a 60, Paid 1800.00 for them. I do know from looking at pictures, they look like the right system. Thanks Jim.
Jim,
Do you want me to go with you to look at the car? There are a few of us in your area who are QUITE familiar with these cars.
(Guess how I suspected you were in Okla)
Tom thanks for the offer, I appreciate it. I have already committed to the car, even if the car isn't what he says it is as far as original, I believe that because of the condition, it is still worth the money. But I'll be glad to show you the car if you're interested. My number is 794-0428.
If you need any help, info or guidence regarding parts, repairs or maintenance, I'll be happy to help. I'm sort of between your house and the location of the car, just on the west side of Will Rogers airport.
A NICE solid axle, even if it has a "period correct" drive train, is probably worth that kind of money. Someone will always tell you about the one they bought cheaper, but ask them to go find another one and see what happens.
