Bought mine (1960) off my dad 6 years ago (for a price that was far below market, but with the understanding he had first option if I every sold it). He had it for 20 years and put only 1500 miles on it. Have done everything from paint, brakes, axle bearings and wiring. He now says he has no interest in EVER having it back. I just hope I can hold onto it long enough for son or nephew.
My dad ordered our car new in 62. Grew up cruising around in it. Only snuck it out once when I was 15 and got busted by a cop about 2 blocks from my house. Thankfully Dad never found out.
Got it 93 when he passed. It had set up for several years when he was sick and I was in college. Pulled it to my first house. Got it running to drive to my wedding 10 yrs ago. Got serious about reworking it 3 yrs ago. Been back on the road about 3 months. Link in my sig documents the process.
This is the first picture of it, about 3 weeks after delivery. Mom and Dad before they were married.
My Dad passed his "63 down to me 2 years ago to make room for his new 03 Z-06.....
Now he's talking about getting a late 50's solid axle..... fortunately I'm building a new
home with an extra large garage.... I'm one VERY lucky guy.
How many of us have Corvettes that have been passed down from
one generation to the next. Have Corvettes become a family
heirloom?
I have my Dad's 65 396/425 and would have had my late uncle's 283/290 1960, but he died of cancer at the age of 55, and my aunt had money problems, so I turned the car back over to her to sell (she got 39$k for it down in the Naples, FL area a couple of years ago). That 60 was the first corvette I ever rode in, and my uncle (my only blood-related uncle) was a great and fun guy...I just smiled thinking of the great top-down runs he used to take me on..
