How do I go about getting the news out to people who are in the market for a classic vette to be aware of a dealer in Springfield Ohio who misrepresents their cars and don't stand behind them?
you found a good place to start. word of mouth is a good way to start. next wright a good story of your side of the story and send it in to the major magazions like Super Chevy, Hot Rod, many Corvette mags, and maybe the NCRS Driveline. if you can get wrigtin proof you can go a long way with this. good luck. and rembmere even though they spealize in Corvettes thay are still a used car lot
thank you. I have sent a letter to NCRS and now I am going to do my homework and send it to as many places as I can. So far I have been stuck with $6,000 just to get it ready for the streets now the new so-called paint job is starting to bubble. They refuse to stand behind anything.

It's good to keep in mind that these people are simply used-car lots that specialize in 30-40-year-old cars, most of which are bought by them with little or no owner or maintenance history; never saw any old used Corvette dealer that sells a 30-40-year-old car with a warranty of any kind - they all say "No Warranty- Sold As-Is" on the window and in the purchase paperwork. Any legitimate business wants happy customers, but in most cases they have no more idea than you do what any of these old cars have been through.
The reason I am interested in this story is as follows; Two months ago a good freind of mine purchased a 67 convertible from them. There was a problem with the transmission leaking oil and the parking brake not working. He called them and they apologized for the inconvenience and asked him to get an estimate for the repairs. He got the estimate and submitted it. A check for the full amount arrived two days later. Also for whatever the reason they seem to ship the spare tire and jack separate from the car.
I'm sure several of you have read the "misrepresentation" story... I know we have because we're reminded of the situation on a regular basis through routine emails from the customer who had posted it. He calls us liars, cheats, and all sorts of other things you probably don't want to read.
But instead of the typical "you guys are liars!" emails that he usually sends, now we get all his forwards from the forum public- everything you email him gets forwarded to us (if you have something bad to say about us or if you agree with him that is.) As if to say "hey Mershon's, look, i've got other friends who claim to hate you too!
You don't stay in business 25 years and sell the amount of cars we do while lying and cheating. So i have a feeling some of these emails are simply made up. Grounded in nothing but imagination (and a couple cocktails)... I apologize, i'm getting off track.
The point here is my request for advice. If the forum gives my unhappy customer "power to persuade" hopefully it can help us in the same way. My question is how can i end the rockthrowing most effectively without getting into the He said/She said garbage that can clog up these otherwise very useful forums? Truth is everyone has an opinion... and anyone in business whether it be McDonalds or Microsoft knows that you can't keep everyone happy. But dammit we try, and people like this give hard working honest people an undeserved bad wrap. Thankfully Gossip doesn't run my life but for a complete explanation, feel free to give us a call at 800-220-9249 and ask for management. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Without taking sides, I would like to applaud Mershon's for at least making an appearance on this forum and attempting to create a civilized dialogue.
I'm sure many of the forum regulars are familiar with another thread that started a couple of months ago (I think it was on the other Corvette forum) about the dealership (Stewart Chevrolet, just down the street from me) that dropped a forum member's C5 off of a service lift during a routine oil change. By not ever attempting to present their side of the issue on the forum, they did irreparable harm to their reputation in the Corvette community here in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Just my 2 cents...!

This is a very strange message from a company called Mershon's. I don't ever remember saying any dealers name. Are you the only used car dealer in Springfield? Sounds like some guilt trip to me. Perhaps you should have tried to help out on the bad paint you sold as new. You know the whole story. As far as lies go you have documation of everything you misrepresented . As the guy said you are just another used car lot.
For your information I don't drink! or smoke. Now do the right thing and fix the problem, get the paint fixed.

Sounds like a nightmare I had last month... I just got off the phone from ordering new pads for all the lifts.

We appreciate the benefit of the doubt when you said in an earlier thread we were one of the reputable dealers. I believe we are and the story you shared is a perfect example of the effort we put forth following up with our sales.
You brought up a good question with the spare and jack. In many cases cars come in to us without spares, jacks, lead hammers, and so forth. I'd say most in fact for whatever reason are missing. Over the course of the year at the numerous shows we attend, we pick up what we can in the swap meet areas in a constant effort to put back what should have been there in the first place. Although not too often, when a car gets sold without these things, the best we can do is locate what we need at these meets, clean it up and send it seperate from the car.
Saw it in person and proceeded with an as is WHOLESALE deal after spending considerable time with the car that afternoon. There was absolutely nothing hidden at any time. Pretty straight forward you'd think.

As far as I'm concerned, you're buying a USED vehicle. Inspect the heck out of it in person and if you buy it, any missed problems now belong to you. Don't blame the seller for a problem you missed and they probably didn't know about.
Give it a rest Mershon's. You were asked if the car had ever been wrecked and you said NO, You said it had just been painted and restored ,now the paint is bubbling and you won't stand by it. I trusted you and gave you your money. The deal is over and now you can prey on some other unsuspecting buyer. The good thing is that I don't ever have to deal with your kind again. I have made the car a good driver and still have my "03. There are too many good people out there with corvettes too bad your not one of them. I am closeing my records on you and your business and will have no further discussions with your co.

You inspected it & bought it. You own it. Stop your complaining. You and only you blew it.
